The legend of Bad Salzdetfurth
Two founding legends are known for Bad Salzdetfurth. One tells of a Knight of Steinberg who chased a fleeing fallow deer in the forests of Salzdetfurth. When he wanted to quench his thirst at a spring, he noticed that it was a brine spring. The other legend tells of a gentleman from Detfurth who, after 35 years of traveling, was fishing with his relatives on the Lambe and discovered the brine spring. According to both legends, after the discovery of brine, salt boilers came and founded the town of Salzdetfurth.
Students from the Bad Salzdetfurth Integrated Comprehensive School reinterpreted the legend of the Knight of Steinberg and made a film of it under the title: “The Legend of Salzdetfurth. Salt has its price.”

There are many stories about “salt in the soup”. This is just one of them. Just like salt makes food taste better, the proverbial salt makes the grass greener, the day more beautiful, love bigger and more interesting. Even though salt is available everywhere today and can be obtained cheaply, it has long been a valuable commodity that was also expensive.
